With the launch of their first full-body model of QBEAK, the award-winning Danish EV concept developer and manufacturer, ECOmove, takes another step towards realizing the goal of launching their first EV in 2012. ECOmove’s designers and engineers have rethought the e-car concept from scratch, and the result is a unique and handy city car formed and equipped as a future means of transportation. For the first time, ECOmove now presents the full-body model of QBEAK.

In 2012, ECOmove will send the first QBEAK-EVs out on the roads. From the very beginning of the development process, expectations for the launch have been enormous among those who already know ECOmove’s level of ambition, and they are now waiting excitedly to see the real life EV in action.

It is already quite clear that the QBEAK is going to be a handy city car, easy to drive and park, and exhibiting flexible functions and innovative design features. The promise from ECOmove is that the QBEAK will be one of the most affordable, individual, flexible, sustainable and easy-to-drive-and-park EVs without compromising safety or reliability.

“We wanted to design an innovative electric car on its own premise, benefitting all kinds of users while at the same time reducing environment impact as much as possible. We have chosen to use alternative lightweight materials, and the QBEAK is equipped with a range of sustainable, competitive features such as in-wheel motors, a unique chassis platform with room for flexible battery modules and a communication system based on a smartphone”, says Mogens Løkke, CEO of ECOmove.


Sustainable Competitive Features

On account of its high flexibility, QBEAK is ideal for several uses. ECOmove has experienced a lot of interest from private individuals because the car can transport a large family, while at the same time being ideal for commuting to work, shopping, or taking the kids to kindergarten. It can be converted to make room for your mountain bike, the dogs, your golf gear, or a trip to the DYI shop or IKEA. Professional users have discovered the marketing potential of its design and green image. But the spacious interior, the flexibility and the attractive economy of QBEAK have made several private and professional fleet owners contact ECOmove.

Most recently, QBEAK has attracted the attention of a number of carpooling organisers who see a potential in the combination of a spacious interior and easy manoeuvring and parking.

QBEAK is made from non-corrosive materials that can sustain minor crashes. The result is a sturdy and robust vehicle with a weight of approximately 400 kg. Even loaded with batteries, allowing the full range of app. 300 km, the total weight is considerable lower than comparable cars.

With a length of just 3 meters, QBEAK has 1-6 removable seats or a large trunk (with space to fit a Euro-pallet in the trunk along with 3 seats). The car is also highly flexible in terms of interior and exterior design and finish options, whilst batteries are available in removable modules (from 1-6 modules) allowing a driving range of up to 300 km.

The short body length and its sliding side doors make parking and driving easy, even in busy urban environments. The driver’s seat is located in the middle, allowing you to choose which side to get in or out.

For ECOmove is has also been important to develop a car with an attractive price tag. The light weight allows the car to travel up to 300 km on a single charge, and the mechanical structure is considerably less complex than conventional cars. There are fewer components to maintain, which in turn reduces maintenance costs – estimated to be less than half the price of maintaining a standard car.

On top of all this, the QBEAK is more sustainable than its alternatives. The majority of its parts can be reused or recycled without wasting valuable resources.

ECOmove has just received the ‘2012 European Electric Vehicles Early Stage Investment Opportunity Award’ rewarded by the internationally renowned Frost & Sullivan-company, who hands out this award every year for best practice achievements.

Energi Horsens Fonden and Østjysk Innovation have invested in ECOmove and provide ECOmove with capital and network.

Climate impact: The QBEAK is CO2 and pollution free. It has sustainable parts and makes no noise, no smoke nor particles.

Economic: QBEAK represents low running costs because of low consumption rates. The parts are recyclable, and it is possible to buy, lease and/or rebuild the QBEAK car.

Safety: Seatbelts in seats, good driver field-of-view and multiple collision zonse to absorb shocks. The QBEAK is made from safe, robust, non-corrosive materials.

Flexibility: It is possible to adapt or rebuild the QBEAK. Also, is has a flexible seat system – from 1 to 6 seats – and user defined exterior and interior. Energy module system with range capacity from app 50 to 300 km.

Usability: The QBEAK has in/out in both sides, an attractively low loading height, small turning radius, remote-controlled applications, simple instrumentation and automatic sliding doors.
